USE OF FRACTIONAL AND MICROABLATIVE CO2 LASER IN CASES OF VULVAR LICHEN SCLEROSUS. A CLINICAL-HISTOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Lasers in Medical Science 2026
This prospective study evaluated the efficacy of microablative fractional CO₂ laser in the treatment of vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) in 14 patients, who underwent three sessions one month apart.
The results showed significant clinical improvement, with 50% of patients completely asymptomatic after treatment. Itching was markedly reduced (VAS from 8 to 1), and burning decreased in both frequency and intensity (VAS from 6 to 0). 64.3% of patients showed clinical improvement according to the GAIS scale.
Histologically, regression of the lesions was observed in 42.9% of cases, associated with a reduction in hyperkeratosis, the reappearance of dermal elastic fibers, and collagen remodeling (reduction in the collagen I/III ratio). Furthermore, quality of life significantly improved across all domains of the Skindex-29 questionnaire.
