The Hystero-Contrast Sonosalpingography is a non-invasive test that has the aim to evaluate the tubal patency in the investigations related to the problems of infertility. Through this examination, the doctors can check the patency of the fallopian tubes, given that 40% of infertility cases are associated with their own closing (imperviousness). The Hystero-Contrast Sonosalpingography is performed by detecting, via trans-vaginal ultrasound, saline or a particular foaming gel, that highlights the tubal patency.

The knowledge of any tubal imperviousness allows the couple and medical personnel to immediately opt for the assisted reproductive technology eliminating the risk of an ectopic pregnancy.
This test lets the patient to know the status of the patency of the fallopian tubes without having to undergo invasive procedures such as diagnostic laparoscopy requiring general anesthesia and hospitalization.
Compared to Hysterosalpingography, this technique employs ionizing radiation (X-rays) and an iodinated contrast agent, which can cause allergic reactions, moreover, the Hystero-Contrast Sonosalpingography has no side effect because it only uses the ultrasound, which is absolutely harmless.

The Hystero-Contrast Sonosalpingography procedure initially is the same as the sonohysterography.
Upon preliminary ultrasound examination, a thin catheter is introduced through the cervix and then the doctor proceeds to the injection of saline alternating with air or a gel, aiming to evaluate tubal patency.

The Hystero-Contrast Sonosalpingography has no risks for the woman. Indeed, iodinated contrast media are no longer use as in the past, so the risk of allergic reaction is reduced if not almost zero.

It is advisable to perform the examination in the first days following the onset of the menstrual cycle, about half of the cycle, because in this period the scarce presence of endometrium mucosa makes better visible the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes, and you also have the certainty of the absence of a pregnancy.
